Growing up, I wasn't the easiest at expressing my emotions. If you were to put me on the spot I would choke up on words, but eventually get them out once I relaxed. I felt more comfortable with a pen and paper. Over the years, it has become one of my greatest strengths. Writing is an art and everyone claims to have found the best way to achieve the ultimate writer's craft.
Well, that may be true, but only for them and a few who follow and found that it works. I won't sit here and claim that any techniques I share here today will work for you either, but it will be added to the infinite amount of techniques out there. I found that writing came natural for me like many other talents come for others. It wasn't one of those hidden talents that I discovered later in life like photography for example. At first, I was always writing in a journal. I have a habit that my mom hates/loves and it's that whenever I see a piece of paper, napkin, etc. and some writing utensil around then my mind says to write.
I chuckle at myself when I'm doing it. I'm amazed at how a child like quality still exist in me as an adult. My writing didn't shift from the "Me" perspective to the "You" perspective until 19. Now, let me break down what the "Me" perspective is first. The "Me" perspective is when you write down something that happened to you or basically not having an intention of writing for another person to view (I'm writing for ME). The "You" perspective is obviously writing from the audience's perspective (I'm writing to YOU). You want to be able to express yourself and engage the reader. I believe you first have to learn to write down general emotions and events for yourself before you write something for others to view. Remembering the fact that everything comes from self.
So here are a few techniques that have helped me on my path to becoming a great writer:
DISCLAIMER- I won't write here that I have found the best way to write, but during those times when writing was the only voice that I had it dawned on me that it was some simple techniques to achieving a voice that was effective.
